My guest this episode is Katie Vernoy. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with a clinical practice in the greater Los Angeles Area. She is also the co-host and co-founder of The Modern Therapist's Survival Guide podcast and the Therapy Reimagined Conference.
Katie has always loved leadership and began stepping into management positions soon after gaining her license in 2005. Katie’s experience spans many leadership and management roles in the mental health field: program coordinator, director, clinical supervisor, hiring manager, recruiter, and past President of her state professional organization. In one of her management roles, Katie was able to transform a struggling mental health program – engaging the team in implementing solutions that improved clinical outcomes, increased clinician productivity (and billing), and won awards from Los Angeles County for innovation and best practices. Now, in business for herself, Katie provides consultation and business strategy to support leaders, visionaries, and helping professionals in pursuing their mission to help others.
In this episode Katie talks about the role of self leadership plus other roles we may take on as therapists such supervision leader, business leader, and agency leader. She also discusses sacrificial helping and how we can avoid it as therapists. We also chat about the importance of critical thinking and knowing when and how to set boundaries with our work.
And for being one of our listeners, Katie is giving you $150 off her signature strategy session - Own Your Career Path.

I sure did and went looking for athleisure wear and activewear that was soft, wrinkle resistant and would match just about anything I already had in my closet. I wanted stylish and high quality apparel that wouldn't break my bank account. And now Zyia Active makes up about 80% of my wardrobe. Want to learn more? Head to lisamustard.com/active-wear. Don’t think this is just for women, they have men’s and kids’ clothes too. Our family is loving the styles and quality while I love the price tags! So head over to my site to check it out. ZYIA is available in the US and Canada. You can also join my Facebook group where I share the latest releases and promotions.
I’ve launched my life coaching practice! I decided to launch a coaching practice instead of private practice for a few reasons but mainly because coaching allows me to work with clients outside of South Carolina. If you’re a woman 35 and up who desires more meaningful work, happier relationships with your spouse, kids and friends or optimal and vibrant health, then I may be the coach for you. Let’s see if we’re a good fit! Go ahead and schedule a free consultation with me and we will talk things over. You can also go to my website to learn more about my coaching.
