How to Turn Your Online Training into a Podcourse for NBCC Continuing Education Credits

In the episode, I share everything I’ve learned about creating Podcourses, meeting NBCC requirements, and making CE more accessible for therapists everywhere.

If you’re a therapist, counselor, or educator who creates NBCC-approved online trainings, you may be wondering how to make your content more accessible—and maybe even create an evergreen income stream. In this post, I’m sharing exactly how I repurpose my existing CE trainings into Podcourses that busy clinicians can easily complete on the go.

What is a Podcourse?

A Podcourse is essentially a podcast episode that qualifies for continuing education credit. Learners listen to the audio, take a short quiz, complete an evaluation form, and then earn their CE hours.

Podcourses are growing in popularity because therapists are busy. We don’t always have time to sit in front of a screen for a webinar, but we do have time to listen while commuting, exercising, or doing household tasks. Pod courses meet clinicians where they are—literally in their earbuds.

And here’s the best part: if you already have NBCC-approved online content (like a recorded training or webinar), you’ve done most of the hard work. All you need to do is adapt it for audio.

Why Create Podcourses?

There are benefits for both learners and you as the CE provider:

  • For learners: It’s convenient, flexible, and affordable. They can learn anytime, anywhere.

  • For you: You can expand your reach, repurpose existing content, and create a steady, evergreen income stream.

It’s truly a win-win.

What Are the NBCC Requirements?

Even though learners are consuming audio, pod courses must still meet the same NBCC standards as any other continuing education activity. You’ll need to:

  • Ensure your content falls under NBCC-approved areas (like ethics, theory, assessment, supervision and more).

  • Provide clear, measurable learning objectives.

  • Include a post-test/quiz and an evaluation form.

  • Issue a certificate of completion with your NBCC provider number.

  • Keep all records for at least five years.

You’ll also need a platform where learners can take the quiz, fill out their evaluation, and download their certificate.

Personally, I use FreshLearn because it allows me to host the audio, create quizzes, collect evaluations, and issue certificates all in one place.

How To Turn Online Trainings into Podcourses

Here’s the simple workflow I follow:

  1. Choose an existing online training that’s already NBCC-approved and works well in an audio format (like ethics, supervision, or self-care).

  2. Adapt the script into a more conversational, podcast-friendly style.

  3. Write updated learning objectives that reflect the listening experience.

  4. Create a short quiz (usually 5–7 questions).

  5. Add an evaluation form—NBCC provides a template you can easily recreate in Google Forms.

  6. Upload everything to FreshLearn, or another CE-friendly platform, to host the audio, quiz, and certificate. (Click HERE to get a free trial of FreshLearn.)

  7. Promote your new Podcourse to your email list, on social media, and in relevant online communities.

It’s that simple.
